Surround comes home, then gets smarter

Atmos comes home

Dolby Atmos for the home arrived in September 2014, adding height information through ceiling or upward-firing speakers so the sound actually has a roof to it (Dolby chronology). This is where the family tree that started with hiss reduction lands right in your media room.

Now, I build these rooms for a living, so let me be straight with you. Atmos at home is fantastic when it's done with restraint and butchered when it's overdone. You don't need a ceiling that looks like a planetarium.
